EUMETSAT Atmospheric Composition monitoring: existing and upcoming programs, examples on applications
EUMETSAT runs two major programs for atmospheric sciences, the Geostationary Meteosat and the Polar Meteorological ones. In the upcoming years, the new generations will be operational with a tremendous improvement of observing capabilities data synergy.
EUMETSAT is also implementing Copernicus Sentinels 3 and 6 and the upcoming 4 and 5 that are specifically dedicated to atmospheric composition. EUMETSAT implements also the so-called “Satellite Application Facilities”, with one dedicated to composition that provide operative advanced products. We illustrate then the wide range of atmospheric aerosol and chemistry data products, with a focus on the new missions, together with existing illustrative applications to demonstrate Satellite data fitness for purpose that include fire monitoring and assessment of impact of COVID lockdown on Pollution in Europe and China.
